“Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and fitness, regardless of age and ability” (Society of Sports Therapists, 2007).
For some reason, people mistake sports therapy as a therapeutic technique solely designed for sports people. However, it is not a specific technique and can be used on anyone. As the definition above states, sports therapy is ‘concerned’ with injury prevention and rehabilitation. It is not a technique but a comprehensive approach to function/dysfunction. Unfortunately, there are too many people who confuse a sports massage with a pre-sports massage. The later is specifically for sports people and falls under the umbrella of sports therapy.
